Information for Users

Using the TL-2 Online is simple and intuitive. There are three ways of accessing the information in the TL-2: Database search, Full text searching, and Browsing.

Where to start?
If you are here for the first time, a good place to start is with the Database search.
For example, you could search on your favourite taxonomist, e.g., Linnaeus. You can do that by selecting 'surname' in the first field of the Search Window, and entering the word 'Linnaeus' in the second field.
When you click on 'Search', a list with all the works by Linnaeus will be shown in the main window, maximum 20 works on a page. Use [<Previous] and [Next>] buttons to browse through the pages of the results list.
When you click 'Author Details' a window opens with the image of the actual page in the TL-2 where the Biographical entry for the author is printed. If you click 'View Details' for a particular title, you are taken to the detailed information page for that title.

Another way of searching is Search through TL-2 text.
Here you can enter one or more search words in a single search field. Use +word to indicate that word is required, or -word to indicate that word should not be present. The result list is presented as a list of pages. Click on a page link to view the full page. You can use the Acrobat Reader text search function to locate the word on the page.

The third way of accessing the TL-2 information is to Browse TL-2.
Here you can access the TL-2 as you would with the original paper copies of the Tl-2: you select a volume, and start at the beginning to read through it. To make this a little easier, we have created a four separate links for each of the volumes and supplements: one to the introductions, the second to the actual bibliography pages, the third to the title index and finally to the name index.
Note on browsing When browsing through the TL-2 pages, it happens very occasionally that clicking on the first, next, previous or last link results in an empty window. This is due to a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer which we have reported and expect to be resolved in the near future. In most cases pressing the 'F5' function key (Refresh) will load the correct page.
